My Commitment to Improving Public Safety

Building a Stronger, Safer Dearborn

I’ve lived in Dearborn for 44 years. I grew up here. My extended family lives here. I owe everything to this city. That’s why I am personally committed — heart and soul — to making sure every resident feels safe and proud to call Dearborn home.

Our families deserve streets where children can ride their bikes without fear. Our seniors deserve neighborhoods where they can walk without worry. Our businesses deserve a city where they can thrive in peace.

Here’s my comprehensive approach to public safety:

Strengthening Law Enforcement and Community Trust

I will prioritize a stronger police presence — on foot, bike, and patrol — in neighborhoods and business districts. A visible police force deters crime, builds trust, and reassures families that help is close by. Community policing will remain a top priority, with officers continuing to build strong relationships across Dearborn.
Cracking Down on Reckless and Careless Driving

To address the crisis of reckless driving, I will implement a no-plea-offer policy for those charged with reckless or careless driving. Offenders will face the full consequences of their actions — no deals, no excuses. I will also expand traffic enforcement, with more speed traps in high-risk areas to hold dangerous drivers accountable.

Combating Narcotics Trafficking and Auto Theft

I will expand the Special Operations Division within the Dearborn Police Department to focus more aggressively on narcotics trafficking and auto theft. By working closely with the Michigan State Police and federal partners, we will dismantle the criminal networks that threaten our safety and our property.

Using Technology to Stay One Step Ahead

I will invest in data-driven policing, using crime and traffic data to focus resources where they are needed most. I will also expand the use of license plate readers and other technologies to track stolen vehicles and apprehend suspects faster and more efficiently.

Expanding Mental Health and Addiction Services

I recognize that many crimes stem from untreated mental health issues and addiction. I will expand partnerships with local hospitals and treatment centers to make crisis counseling and recovery programs more accessible. Our officers will receive ongoing crisis intervention training to help those in distress — offering support, not just handcuffs.

Dearborn is my home. It’s your home. Together, we will tackle these challenges head-on — and build a city that is safer, stronger, and more united than ever before.
Infrastructure
Dearborn needs bold and competent leadership to address its long-standing infrastructure challenges—starting with flooding. It is unacceptable that tens of thousands of residents live in fear every time it rains. Despite the hundreds of millions of dollars spent over the years, far too many families continue to suffer flood damage in their homes.

It’s been over four years since the last catastrophic flood, yet we still haven’t received a clear public report from the city explaining what went wrong. That’s not leadership, that’s neglect. As Mayor, I will implement a comprehensive emergency response plan to ensure our city is prepared for every contingency.

Our neighborhood streets are also in disrepair, riddled with potholes and neglect. It’s time to stop patching problems and start solving them. I will work closely with the Army Corps of Engineers, Wayne County, and state leaders in Lansing to secure both the funding and the expertise needed to fix our aging infrastructure.
Having managed multi-million-dollar projects throughout my career, I understand how to deliver results efficiently and responsibly. As Mayor, I’ll ensure every dollar spent truly serves the people of Dearborn.
Drug Addiction/Mental Health
City of Dearborn Mental Health and Substance Abuse Initiatives

Enhancing Access to Treatment Resources
The Public Health Department will disseminate comprehensive information about medical offices within the city that provide substance abuse treatment, ensuring residents are aware of all available services.

Strengthening Crisis Response
The City will build a stronger partnership with Corewell Health to create a streamlined approach between the Dearborn Police Department and Corewell for psychiatric emergencies. This collaboration will help ensure individuals in crisis receive timely and appropriate care.

Providing Culturally Inclusive Educational Materials
The Public Health Department will develop and distribute informational packets in both English and Arabic. These materials will educate families on de-escalation techniques during psychiatric emergencies and offer guidance on safely accessing emergency services to protect both the individual and their loved ones.

Expanding Public Awareness and Treatment Options
The City will collaborate with local non-profit social service agencies, healthcare providers, and mental health professionals to educate the public about all available treatment options within Dearborn.

Engaging the Faith-Based Community
The City will encourage open discussions with faith-based organizations — including mosques and churches — to address the mental health and substance abuse challenges facing the community. Faith leaders can play a critical role in guiding individuals toward appropriate care and support.

Promoting Narcan Accessibility
Healthcare providers in Dearborn will be encouraged to prescribe Narcan to individuals struggling with opioid use disorder. Additionally, local pharmacies will be supported in making Narcan readily available to help prevent overdose deaths.

Optimizing Narcan Distribution
While Narcan vending machines have raised initial public awareness, the City will transition to ensuring that Narcan is widely available through pharmacies and willing medical providers. Once public awareness and accessibility are firmly established, vending machines will be phased out.
These initiatives aim to enhance mental health and substance abuse support within the City of Dearborn, ensuring that individuals and families have access to the resources and care they need.

Economic Growth
Strengthening Partnerships for Business Growth – The City of Dearborn will collaborate closely with the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce to provide guidance and support to both existing and prospective businesses. This partnership will help identify opportunities for economic growth, streamline business development processes, and ensure that businesses have the resources they need to succeed.

Enhancing City Aesthetics and Green Spaces – To maintain and enhance the city’s visual appeal, the enforcement of city ordinances regarding greenery will be prioritized. Efforts will focus on limiting the excessive use of concrete over grass and green spaces, promoting a more sustainable and attractive environment.

Encouraging Business Development Across All Districts – The City will actively promote new business opportunities across all areas of Dearborn, including the West End, East End, and South End. By fostering a diverse and dynamic business landscape throughout the city, Dearborn will continue to grow as a hub for entrepreneurship and economic innovation.

This initiative is designed to create a more business-friendly, visually appealing, and economically vibrant Dearborn for both residents and entrepreneurs.
